cutting tool problem-Notching

When the roughness surface of the workpiece abrase and scale the deep cutting area, notching will occur. When machining casting surface, oxidized surface, hardening surfaces or irregular surfaces, notching will occur. Notching generally occurs during the machining of high temperature alloys and work-hardened materials, where " scale" material on the surface of the workpiece is very hard and causes accelerated abrasive wear on the insert at the depth-of-cut line.

Suggested Control Actions:

Use tooling that provides a large cutting edge angle to the workpiece.

Increase the hone at the depth-of-cut line area of the cutting edge(tungsten glass cutting wheel with blade edge ).

Reduce the feed rate,increase the cutting speed(tungsten tile cutting tool ,high cutting speed), increase the polish at the depth-of-cut line, avoid BUE.
